Gifts for Turning Your Hesitant Reader Into a Lover of Books

When you are looking for Christmas gift ideas for your kids (or grandkids), and you don’t want to clutter up your home with more stuff, consider getting them some books to challenge and enthrall them.  Some children will immediately enjoy reading as soon as they learn how, while for others it is a struggle even after they learn how to read.  Some children prefer other activities to reading, and therefore getting them to spend time learning through reading can be a challenge.  There are a vast number of books and other resources availably which give can assist with these reading woes, as well as to give advice on how to get your children hooked on books early, so you won’t have to overcome this hurdle.

There are many children’s series’ and popular books which can help to capture the interest of those little ones that need to be coerced into reading, each with their own style and focus.  Tashi books for example are a series written by Anna Fienberg, an Australian writer who includes two entertaining stories in each of her books.

Zac Power Test Drive and Boy vs. Beast Series are two other series, geared towards early readers.  These series which are large print books are aimed at enthralling young readers and have them want to continue reading the series. Zac Power books start with shorter stories and then propel readers on to more advanced longer ones.

A different type of series is the Geronimo Stilton Books which is quite popular with mid grade schoolers.  The reading may be a bit more challenging than some other books, but children seem to like it.  How to Train Your Dragon is a series for middle to upper grade school children and is an entertaining series that both children and parents love.

It doesn’t matter which books or series you chose as long as your child finds it interesting.  Children love it when you read to them as well as having a set routine regarding reading with you daily.  Help your children to enjoy reading by trying to make the time spent reading with them both enjoyable and memorable. Books will be a lasting present that they can enjoy again and again, perhaps even keeping to one day share with their own children.
